The Summit District Program offers students an opportunity to be involved in a comprehensive program for gifted learners in Grades 8, 9 and 10.
Students will experience independent, in-depth learning and also experience work with groups of students of similar academic orientation. Summit students will work within the program to develop creative and/or higher level thinking skills while also developing their organizational, problem-solving and leadership skills. Field Trips, both during school and overnight, are an integral part of the program.

Students will study English, Social Studies, Science and Mathematics in their Summit District Program (4 consecutive blocks). This allows for the scheduling of field trips. The cost of these activities often necessitates fund raising. Summit students will take elective courses with other students in the remaining four blocks of their timetables. This combination of a Mini-school format, working with intellectual peers, and the opportunities of selecting other courses offered by Vancouver Technical will be appreciated by those students who want to explore their interests and develop their talents in a challenging cooperative learning environment.

Organization of the program:

The Summit District Program will present the Ministry-prescribed curriculum will allow students to undertake in-depth studies of topics which interest them while achieving mastery of subject content. All Summit students will complete Science 8, 9 and 10 and write the Provincial Science 10 exam by the end of Grade 9, and a Science 11 (either Biology 11 or Chemistry 11) by the end of Grade 10. In the other subject areas, Summit also allows for the possibility of course acceleration and access to senior courses where appropriate to the student.
